Imperial Cities and High Atlas Mountains Itinerary
Day 1 - Casablanca to Rabat
Arrive in Casablanca and visit the iconic Hassan II Mosque. Then, travel to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. After checking in at your hotel, stroll through the medina of Rabat to experience Moroccan daily life.
Day 2 - Rabat to Meknes to Fes
Explore Rabat’s major attractions, including Hassan Tower, Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the historic Kasbah Udayah. Continue to Meknes, where you will visit Bab Mansour and the Moulay Ismail Shrine. Afterward, visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis before heading to Fes for an overnight stay.
Day 3 - Fes Medina Walking Tour
Experience the medina of Fes, the best-preserved ancient Islamic city in the world. Explore its maze-like alleys, historical mosques, and madrasas, and visit the Mellah, the Jewish quarter. The tour includes a stop at the Karaouine University, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 4 - Fes to Erfoud via the Middle Atlas
Drive through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, known for its Barbary apes. Continue through the Ziz Valley, with its stunning palm groves and Tafilalet oasis, arriving in Erfoud, famous for its dates and fossils.
Day 5 - Sahara Excursion
Embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will experience life as the Nomads do. Visit the village of Khamlia for an African folkloric music performance and explore the souks of Rissani before spending the night in a traditional Berber tent.
Day 6 - Desert to Boumalne Dades via Todra Gorges
Leave the desert and stop at Todra Gorges, known for its towering cliffs and scenic beauty. Take a walk through the gorge and enjoy lunch at a restaurant under the red cliffs. Then, head to Boumalne Dades for an overnight stay.
Day 7 - Rose Town, Skoura, Ouarzazate, and Ait Ben Haddou
Travel along the Thousand Kasbahs Road, passing through the Rose Town of Kalaa Magouna and the Kasbah Amridil. Continue to Ouarzazate, known as “Morocco’s Hollywood”, and visit Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed Kasbah. After lunch, drive through the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech.
Day 8 - Marrakech Guided City Tour
Explore Marrakech, including the Menara Gardens, Majorelle Gardens, and the famous Koutoubia Minaret. Visit the Saadian Tombs and stroll through the bustling souks of the medina. End the day with a drink overlooking the lively Jemaa El Fna Square.
